It's where the old expression comes from, "Don't grind into the wind."Unrooted wrote:I...t just seems like grinding in the wind, into a cup might make a mess.

I'm sure one of the clever gals or fellas from this forum will come up with some clever cup/catcher for this grinder. . . from all of the Asian ghost-burr style grinders I've seen it appears that chaff and grinds must need a catcher that sits flush with the exit chute. . . possibly a silicone cup cut to fit snugly with the grinder-if they don't have issues with static. . .

Thank you from SICL (spatially-impaired coffee lovers). I too thought that was impossible, but now agree that a 90 degree rotation could make it pretty slick.jbviau wrote:Looking at this, I find it hard to imagine grinding while facing it; I'd want to turn it 90 degrees CCW so that the handle would be on my right. Yes, I'm already thinking about where to put it on my counter...

The plan is to have it ambidextrous, where the shaft vane is reversable; so lefties and righties can operated the Apex with their dominant hand. There are normal manufacturing adjustments being made along with a few changes. Lots of work getting down with materials, suppliers, and final fitment.jbviau wrote:Looking at this, I find it hard to imagine grinding while facing it; I'd want to turn it 90 degrees CCW so that the handle would be on my right. Hank, have you heard anything about the MSRP that OE hopes to hit with the Apex? My friends always ask my advice on grinders and they think I'm nuts for suggesting a $200 hand grinder. . .

By the looks of it, my guess is that the Aprx will cost more than a Lido. Your friends should have an easier time getting behind the $200 hand grinder after they see the $300 version.

One time, my boss gasped at me paying $385 for my MACAP grinder (that was 13 years ago).Unrooted wrote:...My friends always ask my advice on grinders and they think I'm nuts for suggesting a $200 hand grinder. . .
I said, "We both know what you paid for that BMW sitting out there. Think it will be in your driveway 20 years from now? Well, this grinder will be sitting on my counter then."
She widely smiled as the mic dropped.

If they are using Ghost burrs shouldn't that be a much cheaper burrset than in the Lidos? Who knows, but I'd personally prefer to pay ~$450 for a Fuji Royal R200 than $300 for a hand grinder. . . I do wonder how big the burrs in Apex are going to beEastsideloco wrote:By the looks of it, my guess is that the Aprx will cost more than a Lido. I didn't ask because it's a bit too early, all the bits and pieces have not been finalized. I'm sure they had some idea in mind before starting this project, and commissioning the moulds. It's a combination of plastic and aluminum food grade parts, and different plastics depending what the part's doing. I think one of reason's for using plastics is affordability, which it wouldn't be if all metal.Unrooted wrote:Hank, have you heard anything about the MSRP that OE hopes to hit with the Apex?
