I have mine from early december and haven't noticed any problems with spraying. I don't want to claim it's perfect grinder, I have some reservations to "spongy" feel dial slider, but definitely no spraying. Only if he has removed the flapper...

Do you think there is a fix to the dial slider?

I'm not sure if I understand the question well. Spongy dial slider feel (rubberlike coupling between slider and dialing system) does not affect grinder setting, it is only cosmetical issue. There is also a LOCK button to lock the slider (or more likely internal setting) in position.
