I think it's the manual switch because it does it in bursts. If it were the dosing switches it would do it for the set amount of time I would imagine.
Take a look at the parts diagram

If you can access the board (37 on the diagram), see if the microswitch is sticking or maybe there is a debris stuck between that and the membrane (34).

LukeFlynn wrote:I never said it wasn't a great grinder, I had one before I got my Major. I was just giving you a suggestion since you were looking at a K30.. I figured I'd offer maybe a more cost effective option. I don't hate the Super Jolly, the grind quality is great. For cafe use, it's just slower, that's it. I apologize for offending your grinder...

I also never told you to buy a new grinder, simply suggested that you could look at other options as a backup/replacement.

Just a note on retention, the E models of both the Super Jolly and Major have a screen that holds coffee in the chute, and the chute on both the Major and SJ is the same size, the SJ retains about 4 grams, the Major retains about 6-7 grams.. is that really much more waste? For home usage I'd say absolutely, a lot of cafes around here seem to be doing great with it though. In any case.. most of the retention difference is due to the size of the burrs. Of course, if you're pumping out a lot of coffee the retention won't matter as much because you won't have to discard it unless you make a change to the grind since it won't be hanging out long enough to go stale.

Regardless of any of that information, I really don't have any further input as to how to fix your grinder other than contact the distributor who sold it to you in the first place. Sorry.
Sorry for the brash response. I'm obviously just a little butt hurt that it broke after 6 months. Thank you for all the advice.

This has left me with a bad taste in my mouth with mazzer honestly. The way the membrane and dosing works on the electronics just isn't all that great. They could benefit from a push button like the k30.

Which we have decided to purchase and send in the super jolly and let prima fix it and when I get it back use it as the decaf grinder just like you said....

Now where to purchase the k30 and get it by Monday.... Ha

And sorry again for my response. I'm sure we all get a little outside ourselves when something breaks.

No worries, to be fair I've never used an E grinder in my home.. I like dosers because less can go wrong. I've never heard of them breaking like this... maybe it's like on old appliances like VCRs when buttons get dusty and start malfunctioning because of simply dirt and grime.

I'd call Prima first thing in the AM and tell them what you need. This is their chance to be a legend in customer service. I've looked at Prima and wondered about them, but I've had such great support from WLL that I went back to them for my next purchase.

Let us know what they do for you.

As some very TEMPORARY measures, you can always turn the grinder "off" until it needs to be operational. In addition, you can close the hopper chute such that a continuous run would not waste too much coffee. The beans under the chute will easily do a "double shot".

I do believe that any vendor would work with you to avoid the shipping times, given your current schedule.

Prima had the lowest price by a LONG SHOT. And seems to be geared toward commercial people.

Even looking at WLL the k30 is 2,500!! That's insane. I can get it on almost any website for 1600.

I will contact prima in the AM for sure. It looks like I will have to buy a new grinder so I'm not closed for a week (which I'm leaning toward the k30, it fits all my needs plus more at a reasonable price) But hopefully I can get this fixed for free and can be my new new decaf grinder or a good backup.

Just an update....

Prima has been SUPERB through this whole thing. We just left their offices in Louisville. Apparently the issue with the super jolly has happened to a handful of other ones this year.... So mazzer is aware of this issue and it is covered by the warranty. I won't get it back for a few weeks but that's okay.....

So I had to buy a grinder to keep running..... I went with the k30 vario and prima took $500 bucks off for the trouble!!! I know that isn't a lot off but I thought it was amazing of them to do so.

So anyone looking to use prima and not so sure whether their customer service is up to snuff... I am here to say that they handled this situation as best as possible. They even offered to loan me a mini instead of buying a new grinder.... But hey this was just a reason to upgrade to the grinder I wanted all along :D

That's awesome! I'd love to hear what you think of the K30 compared to the SJ in speed and grind quality on your other topic.
