That would be wonderful, but alas . . .

Sylvain, I think you misunderstood . . . and I probably wasn't as clear as I might have been, either.

The Pro M has yet to make an appearance on the Mahlkönig USA website -- only on the "home" (German) website -- so how the Pro M will be marketed in North America is, clearly, just speculation. The 260 gram (9+ ounces) hopper is clearly aimed at the HOME, rather than commercial, market. (Heck, the Baratza Vario holds 8 oz./225 g.!) And I am not sure if the Pro M has a commercial certification of any kind. (It probably does, but I don't know for sure.) To me, to market it as a commercial/HORECA grinder is silly. But to market it as a home grinder "steps on the toes" of the Baratza Vario/Mahlkönig VARIO Home . . . unless it is somehow sold as "the home grinder with commercial specs," or something along those lines.

Cheers,
Jason

Then we are somewhat in agreement. But I would not go as far as silly until we can put our hands on one and see how it is made.

I do not think that there would be any toe stepping between the two. They are clearly of different design and the home market can accommodate more than one design.

Can you point to a source for new K30 grinders in that price range? Not refurbished, not demo units, but new. The current K30 price from Espresso Parts is $2,250; the current price from 1st line is $2,150.

After all, we're talking about new prices for the ProM, so it seems only fair to go apples-to-apples with the K30 and use its new pricing.

You did not interrupted and thank you for the information.

Good catch! That settles the previous discussion on street price.

I bought my Elektra espresso machine from Nasi at Fortuna Enterprises in Greensboro, NC and he was a delight to work with. He gave me an amazing price on the machine and he also sells the Mahlkonig K30 so I called to ask him his price for the purposes of this thread and he said he has brand new ones in stock (with the full warranty, not refurbished...) and he's selling them in the "street price" range mentioned.

He also expects to have the ProM in any day now, but isn't sure about the exact price. (I'll post when he gets back to me). He usually sells to coffee shops, but is starting to add in home products.

His cell number is 336-669-2460 (he told me it was fine to post it for people interested in espresso equipment).

It makes me wonder if the Mahlkönig VARIO Home -- being a Baratza design with Mahlkonig burrs -- made Mahlkönig want to design their OWN grinder for home use . . . but couldn't/didn't want to "step on their own toes," in a sense, and make a grinder that would compete head-to-head, so they "upped" it just enough . . . .
I read somewhere (probably their .de site) that they will offer a bigger hopper and a LCD panel optional.

I can imagine (and know a lot of places here) that could benefit from this option (with a 500g hopper) and with almost half a price of a K30 (my estimation for Brazil - we have a Mahlkönig distributor! ).

The grinder starts automatic after inserting the portafilter and gives you a single portion. Tipping the start button once and then insert will give a double portion.
I did not have a lot of time playing with the grinder but first the impression is great.
Hi, Frank!

Can you tell us how the grind adjustment works? I heard about something like macro and micro adjustment, but couldn't confirm that anywhere.

And how about the timer - does it have 0.1 s steps?

Thanks!

Hi Jeff,

I confess I'm not sure. I only called because of the question on the thread and knew he carried the Mahlkonig line and has great prices and service, so I thought I'd check, but since I'm not actually in the market for a grinder myself I forgot that there was more than one variation of the K30 so I didn't ask which one(s) we were talking about.
