Mahlkönig K30 barista mode firmware software update success - Page 2
I spent some time on the bench with 4 different software versions (1.05, 1.08, 1.20.06, 1.02.08) and here is what I found. All 4 versions have .1sec resolution shot timer adjustments. All have the ability to reset the daily shot counters (but not the shot totalizers) by pushing and holding both push buttons in on power up. Here are the differences I could find:
1.05 - no barista mode, no dose timers
1.08 - addition of barista mode, addition of clean warning message but couldn't find a way to disable or adjust clean amount, addition of QTA adjustment (the ability to adjust S or D time by pressing in the S or D button and rotating the knob), no dose timers on S,D or Barista mode
1.20.06 - addition of barista mode elapsed count up time, addition of dose count down timers for S and D. Ability to disable the QTA function introduced in 1.08, clean warning message enable/disable, clean warning message adjustable amount, disc replacement warning message adjustable amount, disc replacement warning reset with password 0408. I did observe a noticeable delay when the dose timer would start counting. I estimate the delay to be 500msec to 750msec after the porta filter switch being depressed is when the timer starts counting.
1.02.08 - this appears to be the newest version, not sure if they meant 1.20.06 to really be 1.02.06 or if they meant this 1.02.08 to be 1.20.08. But my guess is .08 would indicate a newer version. The only difference I could find is the dose timers start immediately once the porta filter switch is active.
Please let me know if I missed a feature or if you want me to test a specific function on my bench setup.

Please be aware that newer hardware has a safety switch on the "lid" over the burr chamber. If you flash earlier versions, without this switch, with newer firmware then you will not be able to run the grinder as the software thinks the lid is off.
I have such an older grinder that cannot be updated.
If anyone is has their grinder open to flash, I'd appreciate if they could check which pins the switch connects to on the IC.

How old is your grinder, what was the firmware version before upgrade and what is the revision of the PCB board? I've never seen one without the safety switch and that goes back to 2006 era machines.
Curious if you could share details of how to upgrade the firmware.
EDIT: I have found the procedure and I believe I already have an ATmega16 programmer in my pile of electronics. Could someone share the K30_1206 firmware file with me via private message? I'm currently on v1.05 and my machine's serial number falls within the range that is allowed to be updated.
Thanks!
Gabe

I have found additional details for each firmware version that I thought would be worthwhile sharing. Would be glad to help anyone upgrade their K30 firmware if they need one of these features.
Versions tested and documented 1.02, 1.04, 1.05, 1.08, 1.20.06, 1.02.08. If I missed a feature you want tested let me know.

- 1.02 - shipped with grinders without a lid switch, so upgrading from this version requires hardware changes. 1.02 uses min and max dose time settings to configure the STI or DTI time. STI is adjustable from SMI to SMA. DTI is adjustable from DMI to DMA. Really unnecessary and was removed on future versions. Dose counters are resetable.
- 1.04 & 1.05 - introduction of non resettable dose counters.
- 1.08 - First version with barista mode. Barista mode is activated by pressing both dose buttons and exited by pressing either single or double dose buttons. Addition of clean warning message but couldn't find a way to disable or adjust clean amount, addition of QTA (quick time adjustment) allows dose time changes to S or D by holding the S or D button and rotating the coresponding adjustment knob.
- 1.20.06 - addition of barista mode elapsed count up time, addition of dose count down timers for S and D. Ability to disable the QTA function introduced in 1.08, clean warning message enable/disable, clean warning message adjustable amount, disc replacement warning message adjustable amount, disc replacement warning reset with password 0408. Dose timers have approximately a 1 sec delay after the porta filter switch is pressed. This is the only version that limits the lowest dose setting to 1.0sec. This version is the only version that requires both buttons to be pressed to exit barista mode.
- 1.02.08 - Newest version. Dose timers start immediately once the porta filter switch is pressed so it behaves like the Peak. The minimum dose time was reduced back down to .1sec. Exiting barista mode can be done by pressing either single or double dose buttons.
Hey there,
Can you share how you were able tup update the firmware? Looking for the software/access port to make the change.
