You don't need a hopper, just make sure you have the motor running when you dump the beans, and have a cover over the bean entrance so you won't accidentally get undesirable stuff into the grinding chamber, after all you won't want to damage those expensive burrs.

I doubt Mahlkonig shortend it with the home in mind, they did it because allot of speciality places asked for a shorter version.

It is an European product, and allot of kitchen thrse days don't have cabinets over the countertop, so there is really no height restrictions, so it isn't something a european manufacture is going to take into concideration, especially as the clearance for those who still has, tend to be the size of a normal sized EK, the reason is that this is the safty requirements set by the EU(65cm/25.6in)

You can use an Aeropress funnel I think, it fits fairly nicely and should be able to hold a good amount of beans. I'm torn between getting this and Monolith Flat, as Monolith flat is much smaller (roughly same size my Vario) but also bit more expensive because of import taxes and maybe not as good for filter coffee as the EK43s, but seems easier to use/maintain and work with..

I have heard comments from people (from coffee shops) who bought the limited version, and prefer the standard model for being more comfortable to work.

ergonomically speaking, the tall/standard version has the correct size for the average westerners (male). But for a short person or for an average sized south east Asian the smaller one has an overall better ergonomic.

So it do depend on the individual person. For me the small one would be less ideal, not that I'm huge bloke (not in Europe) , but the height of that thing is just perfect

The Aeropress funnel doesn't fit, it just stand on the outher rim of the throuth

LWW tumbler will fit perfectly in place of standard mahlkonig hopper but you need to push the metal locking pin out a bit. It is quite easy and looks good.

I may be missing something here. That LWW tumbler looks to be for catching grounds out of the chute. Are you suggesting it as a cap versus a funnel/hopper?

It works quite well actually, you can use it to weigh your beans, place it on the grinder then jsut lift the lid to drop the beans.
The lid will also keep any popcorning beans inside.
