A most important question: Are you using freshly roasted beans?

Also, is the top of the unit that holds the upper burr turned all the way tight? There was a guy here or on FB not long ago who was mistakenly adjusting his grind by unscrewing the top burr carrier rather than twisting the funnel at the top.

yes always fresh beans and yes I adjust section for grind size. Thank you for the great questions!

The reason he ask about beans, is that too fresh beans can behave like the issues you describe due to the fact that they haven't de-gassed enough yet. I will usually use beans earliest 2-3 weeks after roast, usually waiting until 4 weeks.

I can't think of any issues with your grinder that could cause the effect you are describing otherwise. A grinder can be slightly unaligned but this would still result in a fairly replicable shot, although potentially not optimal taste profile
