Hello all. I've had my kinu for about 1 year. I purchased from the kinu website during the time they had a fire. I've started to notice more noise coming from the bearings. I've cleaned it out many times and tried to adjust things a bit but it's making more noise now. I looked on the website to see if I was missing a maintenance step. Just wondering if it's something easy to do myself our should I contact kinu?

Thanks

contact them

a bearing failure can happen with just about any device for many reasons

sure you could replace it yourself but see what they can do for you

out of curiosity did you ever use with their drill couplink they used to sell?

Are you sure it's not that tiny little ball bearing that at least I have under the grind setting dial? I lube it once in a while and now it's been quiet a long while.

Last month when I am seasoning my pour over burr there's some strange noise from the bearing I use WD-40 Specialist Silicone Spray Lubricant, I also use those spray for my Apex grinder, now is back to normal the strange noise are gone...

I've only had noise from the small ball bearing on which I applied some CRC very carefully. Around 9 months of use so far, so let's see.

If it's the small ball bearing, anything you want really as long as it's not too thick. You only need a very tiny droplet of lubricant to stop the thing from squealing and it's pretty much impossible the oil on that bearing is going to come in contact with the beans. I used WD40 and that works. I wouldn't ever try to spray it directly on there though or you risk coating half the grinder in oil. Instead spray som on the end of a flat screwdriver or so, then let that drip onto the ball.

In theory yes, in practice there's quite some pressure in the can so if you push just a little bit too hard the spray explodes all over the place :D Not worth the risk imo. Though I've never used that particular type of WD-40 so maybe it's different than the cans I have.

Spray somewhere else and then just touch the bearing with the tube where usually you would now have a small drop of the oil remaining. Done. Don't spray directly.
