Overreacting much? I take it you don't have sharp implement like this in your home

If you do have children you should child proof your home. You child proof kitchen and other things around home, its just common sense. Here is great device that you can use with all sort of electric equipment VoltBolt. You can attach it to back of the grinder if you wish so and control the power with a key...

This will turn into off topic i am sure but I can easily count at least 10 things in typical household that are as dangerous as this grinder. Small child cannot reach top and back of the counter, when they can reach the grinder they are old enough to know not to really stick fingers in random things.

6ft

Edit: It's detachable and you could buy a shorter/longer length most likely.

The receptacle on the back of the K M C appears to be the same layout as most computers use so I suspect there are different lengths available. The one that came with mine is also six feet long.

Sweet. 6 ft should be workable and if not that's nice I could get a longer one. I'm trying to figure how to arrange my countertop. Don't like how my workflow is right now.

Jup i can confirm it is "standard PC" plug, mine came without and i had to source my own (europe 220v - schuko) and you can simply swap out cables and different lengths, i actually used an L shaped pluf so it looks even sleeker.

Much to my dismay, there was shipping damage and the rear plate of the grinder had some corner impact damage. I don't know quite how they managed this as the packing material was nearly all encompassing, but they've worked their magic like this in the past.

...
At this point, I emailed Denis to voice my frustration with myself, and let him know about the shipping damage. He is the epitome of excellent customer support and after-service. He offered to send out a replacement plate when he has them machined for the next run, so that I could swap it out myself without sending in the machine. I had asked if the damage was sufficient to throw anything out of alignment, and it turns out, no way. He's actually drop tested a grinder with a 5-foot drop to the floor, and it worked as new. The bearings he uses have a 3000-pound load limit. He then informed me that I was probably overdosing the VST basket, as the L1 has less room between the shower screen and coffee bed than other machines, so I was probably cracking the puck and getting horrible channeling, which sounds about right.

After following his advice, success!

KafaTek customer service is more than impressive. At the moment I can only sympathize with Dennis ... incredible enough he got stung by someone who also claimed transport damage and got a complete (!) new machine. And then refused to return the damaged one. Claiming Dennis had to pay him also the double import taxes. As far as I can tell that was because the customer was to lazy (or at best ignorant) to get the import-taxes back himself if he ever decides to return the damaged grinder. I hope this gets resolved quickly.

I am sure this correlates to Kaffee-Netz forum?
Double duties? Never heard of that one before, as far as i know, if he received the new grinder and customs made him pay import duties one more time, he can issue a file case claiming to receive the "double paid" duties back into his account. It probably takes a few minutes to explain and fulfil the form and thats about it instead of being extremely happy that he doesnt have to hassle with DHL regarding the damage.

I really hope this is an isolated case and it wont effect Denis shipping the grinders to Europe, as this machine is too good not to have it here.

Agreed, but for the sake of this discussion, let's not be importing (slightly off-topic) discussion threads from other coffee forums to continue that fight here. No thanks.
