What's that wood called? It's so colorful and you've got the tamper matched!wachuko wrote:

We've got way too few videos for the Monolith in general,so.... I've shoot one! Generally, I tried not to be too fussy with getting the last grain out (<0.2g is fine IMO) and used no WDT in this video. The naked pour is on the border of being acceptable (taste good), but WDT is worth it for the improvement if not just for an even-looking pour.

Thank you for the video. I have not used the spray bottle.
I find that, after it stops grinding, I have to remove wood cap and tap with my palm to force some air inside to get the rest of the grounds to come out.
I also need to adjust the portafilter holder to make it just a tad closer/narrower and avoid the vibration noise I get from the portafilter resting on it.
Descent Espresso funnel does not work with this grinder as the thickness towards the bottom interferes with the holder. Using the one supplied by Denis.
Love the tamper as it comes down straight and leveled every time. But to do the polish that I am used to, not easy.
All minor stuff, just sharing initial findings.

The retention disappears when it breaks in. I can't say when as I didn't run my first shot until 4-5lb was ran through but after cleaning out all the beans from the machine with air I put in 17g (pre RDT) and got out 17g exactly three times in a row.

Do you still RDT to get zero retention then? Hoping to skip the RDT eventually but currently the grind is so much more fluffy/tidy with it! Without RDT, I noticed sometimes the chute would get blocked with slightly compacted coffee cake.
It was a home roast - a fairly dark/medium (full city+) Ethiopian Ghimbi - thus a bit more prone to static as well. 18.3g in (18g VST) and roughly around 30-32g out. I prefer lighter roasts generally but the current greens I have on hand just taste terrible as light roasts. =/
Oh, if anyone had noticed, I'm using a levelling tamper in the video (The Great Leveller - corny name ). Quite similar to Denis' Lev Tamp but obviously not as gorgeous. The auto-level makes life so much easier! Tamping can be done half-heartedly and still turns out great!

I am skipping RDT... but I am making a mess... I need the funnel closer to the spout to avoid grounds flying out.
The grind is amazing... but then again, I can only compare to the grinder in the Breville 870L.
I did experienced the coffee cake just now, coming out when I tapped the grinder to force air into it. I am using Vivace Dolce instead of the beans sent by Denis (those are more on the tobacco side and I like dolce over that flavor).
I will make a few adjustments to raise the portafilter holder and width and see how it goes.
Again, the grind is soo much better than what I had. And I finally get to use the Rocket!! Taste wise, I am too much of a newbie to notice any difference. All I can say is that the espressos are tasting great. 18g in 36 out. Will get a video after I get the mess under control.

You want one of these. They're a perfect marriage for the MonoCon.wachuko wrote:I am skipping RDT... but I am making a mess... I need the funnel closer to the spout to avoid grounds flying out.

Note, this link takes you to the 53mm version. I have it in 58mm and I prefer the polished stainless steel. They do have thin ones in aluminum in various sizes. But you might have to ask them or look around for the stainless in 58.

TomC,
That is exactly what I need. I have them for the other machines. Will reach out to them for one in stainless steel. Thank you!
