How would you compare the quality of grind on the Monolith for a Chemex brew? I'm planning to order one and wondering if this will be a higher quality grind than my LIDO 3 for Chemex.

Kruve to the rescue. :D Ground about 7g of beans and sifted.

1.5 full turn (from espresso):
72% >1000 um
25% 400um-1000um
3% <400um

1.0 full turn:
52% >1000um
40% 400-1000um
8% <400um

For drip I think I would probably go for around 1 full turn (or less) from espresso setting. 1.5 turn may be more suitable for coarse French press.

For comparison, on the Helor I typically use about 1.5 turn coarser from espresso (for one cup metal filter Hario), which gives the following distribution:

40% >1000um
51% 400-1000um
9% <400um

Are you saying it's a lot quieter with the wooden cap?

Wood is acoustically better absorbing noises.

I'll take a video in the am and try to get some dB readings.

But yes, very much so.

good info. never would have thought of it - makes complete sense though. Thanks for pointing this out.

I'm honestly most interested in seeing videos of the coffee being dispensed into the portafilter. If anyone would oblige Id certainly appreciate it.

Try drilling a similar size hole in the wood cap and let us know if the results are still similar.
