My first informal stab at it and subsequent experience tell me the LIDO is effectively the Preciso's equal (at least) with respect to non-espresso brewing. I haven't used (or even felt the need to use) the Preciso in weeks except to grind for a few espresso shots.
Would be a good comparison but the Preciso already has the edge as it does espresso without any problems. If you are just looking to ditch the electric, then it seems you are probably going to want the Pharos if you do espresso. I don't own the Pharos but I understand it does coarse grinds quite well.

Pharos vs Preciso would be more of an even comparison (I say "more of" because in regards to the burr, the Pharos is a step up).

Thanks for the report! After using DrGary's Lido and reading your post, I may place an order!

It's a nice surprise to see the coffee you used was from Fong Da. This is one of their roasters:

I'll have to check out Fong Da next time I'm in Taipei.

Once again, thanks for that write-up.

Just...wow! Thanks.

How many turns was that from zero? <with respect to Jeremy's 2 turns in the Clever showdown>

Long-term I was just looking for a non-espresso back-up for the Preciso, and I've found that for sure in the LIDO. I'll be comparing the two elsewhere with respect to coarser grinds only. Don't have a Pharos or else I'd be adding it to the mix!

Is it telling that I'm looking for a manual backup to the Preciso as well? I've had to resort to a hario several times.

However, since I mostly do espresso, I will probably opt for the Pharos instead of the Lido (as much as I would really love both). I still use the hario to grind for cupping and it would be awesome to have the Lido in its place. :)

The Pharos is a great grinder! I've been making very small adjustments to use it with a Pavoni and it gives very fine-tuned control. Precise grind quality, very few fines. It's very different than working with any other grinder I've got.

Wow, Fong Da Taiwan uses Probat. The Fong Da here in Macau uses a smaller roaster, I think it is a 1KG Toper.

The are really great and always have lots of different fresh roasted beans, they will even sell me greens. They only have the one shop in Macau, the roast master flies over every few days to do all the Macau roasting, then goes home to Taiwan. The barista at our local Fong Da is really cool, and makes a mean siphon.

I'm a bit curious about that. My photo for Press grind was at 1.8mm, which is the coarsest setting on my Rosco, 1.8 full turns from absolute zero (burrs touching). The lower burr can't be turned out any further. Jeremy says he used two turns from zero for clever drip, which doesn't sound right.

Jeremy's Rosco is more recent than mine so maybe Ross Spencer (the inventor and maker) has added a bit more thread to allow for the outer burr to be turned out to even coarser settings. Though that seems unlikely as it already goes pretty coarse.

Jeremy can you double check this?
