SSP 64 multi-purpose burrs seem to work pretty well
I'm not sure what to make of that video...
The 1st shot and 2nd shot have quite a different profile. Their could be some signs of channeling on the 1st shot while the 2nd one is espresso porn material.
What about seasoning? I'm assuming the burrs are quite new unless he had them previously in a different grinder...
No indication of the roast level.
And what's the purpose of the video of the alignement tool? Seems to be measuring the OD of the top burr holder??
And then the latte...
Did he mod his DF64?
Is he part of the engineering team?
But SSP unimodal fit and grind fine enough for espresso which is a big plus imo!

With the stock burrs not seasoned yet, i did found out that:
For espresso ground setting i preferred to remove the anti clumping plate to allow a better extraction of the residual ground while using the bellows
Grinding quite fine i got a final retention of 0.3/0.4 gr, but my beans are brittle and even oily, anyway not bad at all.
With coarser setting i probably will install the anti clumping plate only to avoid a faster ground flow with subsequent electrostatic effect that i can't see while the anti clumping is installed.
In my actual situation i can't really get good result while grinding directly into the portfilter due to the bellows effect ( i have to press with energy 5/6 times) will blow away the ground already in the basket, i don't have a basket funnel so i can't say if could be a solution, anyway i prefer to grind in a dosing cup.
Without WDT or RDT the result in cup was nice for my palate, but obviously this is not a useful info...unless we are telepathic
My grinder is not the G-IOTA but is the DF64 that is the standard version, so i have no idea if the guys of G-IOTA had customized their model, i only speak about the DF64 in my hand.

Good info! 0.3-0.4g is definitely good enough for a flat burr grinder.
Can you share a pic of what exactly is the anti clumping plate? Is it something residing in the chute that can't be seen in the photos released?

Wondering what the retention is without using the bellow? Did you try?

With the anti clumping plate installed 1.4gr, without the anti clumping plate 1gr.
With the anticlumping plate installed i even need to run the motor almost 15 second longer until i can see anymore ground exit the chute.

Where did you find it in Bangkok, I am starting to upgrade to espresso and are looking for a new grinder. Maybe you also can give me some pointers about were to go to shop espresso gear in BangkokGiampiero wrote:I did found an importer in Bangkok.
The nice surprise is that he ask me to test the grinder, so he gave me one of his sample model...for free
I probably will post some photos later.

A video of the one and only Dave Corbey using this grinder has been posted on another forum! Maybe we can expect a detailed review sometimes soon
If he does a comparison with th Niche, that would be even better, but I might dreaming.

Interesting, I'm curious to know if DaveC has got a unit with already seasoned stock ( Italmill) burrs.Johnscorps wrote:A video of the one and only Dave Corbey using this grinder has been posted on another forum! Maybe we can expect a detailed review sometimes soon
