Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the SSP burrs share the Mazzer dimensions, perhaps there's some variance in the lower carrier?

I have tried the Mazzer SJ burrs as well and experienced the same problem. They did not fit well and I could not grind fine enough for espresso. A coffee friend in my country got the same issue. We found a 1 mm difference in burr height.
I am getting the SSP multi-purpose burrs so I hope they do fit.

Both the SSP HU and MP fit the DF64. Member Zellleonhart installed and aligned multipurpose on his and is using the G-iota for light roasts on a flow control machine I believe.
May I ask why you decided to go with the multipurpose over the High Uniformity since you were going to go with the mazzer SJ burrs at first?

As far as I recall SSP burrs is higher/deeper this where also the case with their 98mm burrs. Now this where not a problem on many grinders, but I guess it could theoretically be a problem on some grinders.Jonk wrote:Correct me if I'm wrong but I think the SSP burrs share the Mazzer dimensions, perhaps there's some variance in the lower carrier?

My DF64 arrived today, quite surprised of the heft.
Mine is white (sheen of metallic blue).
Waiting for SSP high uniformity burr to arrive before I use it.
Initially fired it up to test it, didn't shut off in 45 secs, I guess different region's market have different specs?
Sorry for the crappy pics.

For espresso it's still doable, might be sometimes annoying for folks who switch between brew and espresso as the scale might not be positioned well (imagine the mental maths of grinding espresso around the 35 range and filter around 5, yet going smaller means going finer. Or sometimes the useful range might be in the part of the scale without numbers)malling wrote:As far as I recall SSP burrs is higher/deeper this where also the case with their 98mm burrs. Other than this potential nuisance, SSP work fine. My touch point went from minus 5 to 28, though

This is kinda why I want to use the stock Italmill Tin burrs. I'll be going back and forth and this new spectrum will annoy me

I don't have the grinder yet, but two thoughts on switching between burr sets.
- Mark where zero is on the case for each burr set. Maybe use two different colors of electrical tape, with white being stock and red being further anti-clockwise and for the upgrade set. A bit more annoying that zero is middle front, but easy to implement. Or
- Replicate and print the top face scale on vinyl, the kind that static sticks on windows. You could either use a printing service or a Cricut. If you don't swap often, stick the vinyl on when you swap to the upgraded burr set and remove when you're back on stock. If you swap more frequently, print two scales on the vinyl, one on the edge and the second just a little further in, and keep the vinyl in place all the time. This would look a bit nicer than electrical tape, but would take a little more time to set up

There are 2 similar solutions that were posted on the UK forum regarding this issue. I'll try to post the links on here later.

basis, It would need to be much easier process to swap burrs then it's today to be viable solution. Removing screws it's just way to much of a hassle. Hopefully some cleaver manufacturer would come up with a solution to this eventually, but until now the best I seen is either Titus Nautilus or EG-1 and even those involves way too much work (and neither are particularly cheap)
