Ditting 807 Hum

Question for other Ditting 807 owners. My Ditting 807 Filter arrived today. I set it up and plugged it in as the manual directed. I then flipped the power switch on the back, and a persistent hum began to emanate. Would call the sound more of what one would hear from an electrical transformer than a fan. The grinder is functioning with the side button starting and stopping it, and nothing seems off other than the hum (still audible from roughly 20 feet away). The sound persists without varying and stops immediately once I flip to off the switch on the back. Is this sound normal for this grinder?

Hi there! The hum is from a magnetic coil relay that activates when the rear power switch is turned on. It can be a bit noisy in a quiet home environment. But to answer your question, this is normal for the 807.

Oh gosh, that sounds awful. I have an 807 LS on order - I wish I had known before!

It's super manageable, and wouldn't suggest you let it change your decision guessing you arrived at the Ditting for all the reasons it is a great grinder. It just requires flipping the relay switch on the back on/off when you're intending to use it rather than leaving it on all the time (make sure wherever you intend to place it that you have easy access to reach around to the back). Posted because it wasn't a noise I was expecting (had heard about the fans running, but not about the coil hum), so was concerned it might indicate something wrong w/ my machine. W/ the assurance from Prima that such is normal, it's now just part of using the grinder. The grinder certainly isn't quiet, but grinds quickly (and grinding is much louder than the hum), so what noise there is doesn't last long.
