Conical to flat burr surface area?

My Bezzera has 48mm conical burrs. What would be the equivalent surface area in a flat burr (nothing to do with taste just surface area)

Thanks

Randy

The formula for the surface area of a cone lateral (less the bottom) is π*l, where l is the length of the long side. If you know the diameter and height of the burr, then l = sqrt( r^2 + h^2). I don't know the dimensions of your burr, but you can probably estimate it. Since most conical burrs are truncated cones, you'd estimate the "missing" part of the cone and subtract that.

A flat burr area would be the area of the circular diameter, minus the area of the hole in the middle.

Since there are two burrs in a set, you'd take the calculated area and multiply by 2.
