If the heat is being generated by the friction of the grind, then I'd expect ceramic burrs to be much worse than metal. Metal would act as a heat sink and transmit generated heat away from contact with the beans by keeping the burrs cooler. Ceramic burrs are going to heat up and stay hot since they won't conduct heat away from where it was generated. The only place that heat has to go is into the next beans being ground....
Unless there is less friction with ceramic burrs generating less heat in the first place, which could be what was meant by the phrase you've quoted and disagreed with.

The Baratza website now states November, 2008 availability.
http://www.baratza.com/products.php?itemid=31

I've seen some information that this will be $450 list, $429 minimum sale price. I've seen seemingly lightly used Mazzer SJ's go for $350 on eBay recently. If the Vario can get as good a grind with much less footprint and easy FP to espresso adjustment, I can see the market, though.

Rich, I think you can already get it from 1st-line for $429 shipped.

Was that your Clint Eastwood impression?

I love the idea, but I'm not a big fan of dispensing the grounds into a plastic container . . . my only "nit-pick" with the grinder. Still, it might make a nice replacement for my second (backup/decaf) grinder . . . one day.

I thought it had an adapter (or the plastic bin can be removed) that will dispense directly into the PF via a pressure switch?
