As I mentioned in the other thread, I had an early 270w with occasional under dosing. I called support last week and they mentioned that the early models had an issue where the metal forks were not grounded and would pick up static electricity which caused the scale to misread. They just shipped me a new grinder and I dialed in my first shot tonight. From the outside, the new grinder has the Acaia logo on the scale.

I'm guessing that this updated version really resolved the dosing issue and it should be rock solid. It does sound quieter as well.

I wouldn't hesitate to buy one and would recommend the weight version. These guys provide great customer support should any issues arise.

You can mess around with a cheap grinder, throw away pounds and pounds of coffee at $18/pound and buying multiple cheaper grinders after they die, or you can buy a real grinder once, never have an issue for life while pulling tasteful shots shot after shot after shot. Get a Mazzer Major, K30 or similar and don't mess around with the plastic Baratza toys.

I had a major, and I can honestly say the Sette is better in both taste and workflow. It's not the same level of build, but it's certainly not a toy.

Yep. Two Mazzers here and I go for the Sette every time. To each his own I guess.

Aren't all these things toys? :D

Umm.... I'm not sure who is throwing away coffee?

Ironically the Sette has one of the lowest grind retentions out there. So if you are purging your stale grinds everyday, maybe you are throwing away pounds of coffee?

FWIW, I've had my Sette 270 (non-W) for 2 months now, and I've had no problems with it, I use it probably 4-6 times per day.

I had an issue with my Sette this week. It has been working great for months! However, while I was grinding for my morning espresso I heard a loud, screeching sound. Removing the hopper I discovered a piece of metal sticking out from the inside where the burrs are! I tried removing the bottom burr, but it was stuck. After adding a little more force I was able to remove the bottom burr. Please see images to see what I'm talking about. My first thought was that my wife (or cats) must have sabotaged me, but I'm 99% sure that's not the case. I have reached out to Baratza and the only thing they responded was that the metal piece must have come from my coffee beans and to reach out to the roaster (Ritual Coffee). I have replied to them saying how unlikely this is and they have yet to respond and I am wishing for a repair/replacement. It is unlikely that the metal piece came from the coffee since I weigh out the coffee for every shot and then pour the 18g of coffee into the hopper. I feel that I would have noticed the metal piece at some point. Also, I have tried to use the grinder again and it isn't working. It keeps getting stuck while trying to grind the coffee beans, seems like it might be off balance or something. The grinder is broken, but Baratza has yet to sincerely respond to my issue.

Has this happened to anybody else? Does anyone have any thoughts on where the metal piece might have come from?

I agree with Baratza, looks like it was fed in with coffee. Is it a black plastic coated paperclip?

That sucks! I single does and put the top cap in a drawer, it was no louder with or without the cap. After seeing this I guess I will start using the cap again.

That's interesting. I once stopped my grinder and found a screw inside. I racked my brain trying to figure out where it came from, and then remembered I had used my hopper lid to hold parts when I was working on my grinder.

So, we all can make mistakes, if that's what happened don't feel bad. I have taken apart my Sette a few times and not seen anything like that inside, so I don't think it came from the grinder. Could have come in with the beans or been inside some other vessel your beans might have been in for weighing, etc.
