On a molecular level, of course, you're completely correct. As an aphorism, though, it's perfectly apt.

Generally a great grinder paired with a low-end machine will get you a far better cup than a LM paired with a whirly-blade, indicating that the quality of the grinder has a greater impact on the result in the cup than the machine. Mostly.

I have a gaggia carezza & wasn't happy with it, except for the fact that it froths milk, but then I started using a super jolly grinder & haven't had a problem with it since. So...there are my 2 cents. :)
