I recorded this sound the other day on my ECM Synchronika.
I tried a backflush with a blind pf but it kept going. It later stopped after I ran a shot, then came back, later went away and hasn't been back since. I wonder it is, possibly an early indication of something I need to fix?

Maybe a small (steam) leak inside ? You can easily remove the pannels and check from where the sound come. You could also disable the steamboiler one time to determine with boiler makes sound.

Vacuum breaker on a boiler.

Cover the silver exhaust port that dumps steam when the system turns on next time it makes the noise and you'll likely find that the noise stops.

You'll need to replace the gasket inside the breaker.

Thanks. Can you describe where that silver exhaust port is? Are you referring to where after a backflush liquid comes out, or something different?

Just above the drip tray on the face of the machine, behind the spout under the group.
