A better sound recording would be helpful. Audio is very low.

It sounds like a ticking. How long after turn on does this occur?

Thank you for your response!

After I turn it on it lasted about 2 minutes then it was gone and I was able to make 2 espressos.

It was on for almost an hour, no ticking sound, no leaks.

I'm guessing that it's the expansion of the heating element as it heats up, either heating unevenly due to calcium insulating sections of it or simply expanding at a different rate than the boiler wall where it is mounted. It sounds like cars back in the late 70s with aluminum heads on iron crankcases cooling down and the different metals contracting at different rates making the gaskets "tick".

I'm guessing it's nothing to worry about, but a mild descale of the steam circuit might be a fun experiment.

Thanks for the advice!
This morning when I turned it on I did not hear the ticking sound. It was well behaved.

Are you using non-scaling water?

I am using Crystal Geyser and filtered water.
