Lunar Scale Owners- which of the six modes do you use?
- CarefreeBuzzBuzz
I am curious how people are using their Lunar. After the last firmware update there are six modes. I use Mode 1 for weighing single doses for my jars, and Mode 4 for my espresso. Curious what others are using in their workflow.
Mode 1 - Weighing Only Mode -In the Weighing Only Mode, the scale will only display weight in either grams or ounces.
Mode 2 - Dual Display Mode - In Dual Display Mode, the scale displays [0:00 0.0] with a timer (left) and weight (right).
Mode 3 - Timer Starts with Flow Mode - When the scale detects the flow of espresso, the timer starts. The timer will stop when the flow stops. This mode is designed to detect the slow trickle of a shot of espresso. *please note: The flow detection mode is designed to detect the flow of espresso. The timer may not trigger when attempting to pour from a kettle.
Mode 4 - Auto-Tare Timer Starts with Flow Mode - This mode is designed for baristas who would like to measure the time of the shot starting from the first few drops of espresso. When a stable weight is detected, the scale will perform the auto-tare operation. After the scale detects the espresso flow, the timer starts. The timer will stop when the espresso flow stops.
Mode 5 - Auto-Tare Auto-Start Timer Mode - This mode is for baristas to measure the total time of a shot including the pre-infusion time. After placing a stable weight such as a cup on the scale, it performs the auto-tare operation and starts the timer.
Mode 6 - Auto-Tare Mode - In this mode, the scale will only perform auto-tare without automatically starting the timer. Put the cup on the scale and auto-tare will be performed. Pull the shot of espresso as usual. When the cup is removed from the scale, the display flashes the final beverage weight and also shows the tare weight of the cup. The weight resets after 30 seconds

Mode 4 for espresso

Mode 1 with the Slayer. Cremina and EspressoForge: Probably Mode 4 or 5 but I'm in Slayer mode since I got the Lunar a week ago and thus haven't played with the manuals.
No Espresso = Depresso
I'm curious too!
Getting this as a Christmas present from my coffee loving daughter and son-in-law!! My BDB already gives me total time (preinfusion plus full extraction), so I'm thinking the lunar can give me time from first drop. Looking to use the data to hopefully pull better shots!

Rather than start another thread and I hope Michael doesn't mind me giving him credit for a great add-on to the Lunar: Silicone rubber band around the perimeter makes it completely sure-handed picking it up/putting it down. I have a bunch of various size silicone bands I bought from Amazon...they always come in handy for something and one of them fit my Lunar as if it was made specifically for it!

That's exactly why I use mode 4 for espresso. I get total time in my machine and first drops on the scale.BaristaBob wrote:I'm curious too!

I have the sensitivity of the auto start turned up so it starts right at the first drop as well and not a gram or two in.
Mode 6 - I just look at the shot timer on my machine. The auto-tare works way better than on my old Brewista smart scale II!
