For what its worth, I find that a 3 second purge (maybe 7g) tends to be about right on my machine if I am not making back to back shots.

I do exactly what Frank suggests and it's a function of how much of an adjustment is made (1 small notch vs. a couple; this is also on a new NS M1, but with the heating element unplugged.
