No, into the throat of the grinder, then use a plastic tamper on top to keep the beans from hopping out.

Further question for F4 owners - is cleaning easy? I see that a few users have mentioned low retention, whats the cleaning situation like?

I use the flexible hose with my vacuum cleaner to suck things clean from throat and chute every two weeks or so. On the 1 year anniversary recently, I disassembled and cleaned thoroughly. Took about 30 minutes. Easy peasy.
