Hi, been wondering why my rotary pump doesn't start sometimes if I don't use the machine for a few hours,
Took machine apart after it was cooled off, had the hose in a bucket since it's direct plumbed. Checked all the connections and tested the capacitor for the motor, tested ok.
Then I powered it on and let it heat up, after 15 minutes I noticed the pump was very hot to touch.
surely can't be from the boiler. Then I noticed the motor was hot as well, is that even possible? How can a motor get so hot if it's not being used. Pump felt so hot that it even heated up stainless hose to the bucket of water. Any ideas what would cause that? Could there be a short in the motor? Machines wasn't wet, so it's not water that's shorting it out.

The hot water could be from the hx or even the boiler of the machine.
If the check valve is faulty, it will allow the water to flow backwards through your pipes back to your pump.
I've had this happen before and it caused a braided stainless hose to burst and start leaking hot water and steam.
