Weber Workshops Key Mk. i Grinder - user experience

FYI, I just used my roaster's tachometer to measure the RPM on my Kickstarter Key:{table}I had thought that my usual setting was 100 RPM - but it is actually 85 RPM. Note that I expect every Key will vary - I am just comparing grinders and I wanted to have the same RPM to compare noise levels

I had a very similar experience with Weber customer service. They need to work on this part of the company and fix it. After using my grinder for a month, I have noticed there is a strange noise when it is working without beans. First I though it is the gears. But after cleaning I found out it is

Re: Stiff adjusting ring. This will disappear after a while. Re: the gearbox noise. The Key uses a bevel gear, and bevel gears can be noisy. I'll skip most of the methods to reduce the noise as most of us don't have machine shops . So, on my particular Key - I'm not saying this will work

@stelee987 ... I've used mine since January and have been up and down the whole RPM range in that time. I use 90 RPM now, it gives me consistent espresso across a range of medium roast beans, plus the odd dark roast for guests. You can make tiny changes to mouthfeel and body with RPM, but it's so tiny that

Finally after over a year, received my key in San Diego last week. UPS left it at the doorstep without requiring signature - careful for anyone who has issues with porch pirates in their area. I'm upgrading from a eureka specialita with stock burrs that I've had for 4-5 years. In no particular order, thought I'd share some initial thoughts

If you search this thread, there are several posts about noises with the grinder. If I recall correctly, it didn't seem to be a big problem. {link}

Has anyone had issues with a weird noise developing while grinding? Sounds like a rattle in the top gear. I'm hoping it just needs some grease but worried there is some manufacturer defect or just poor build quality. It's more pronounced at higher speeds. I emailed Weber with a video but no word yet
