How good is the Mazzer Robur?
I completely understand your rationale. I have similar quirks. I won't buy the Scace thermofilter just because it looks like something that should cost a third the price. Trust me, I will do everything to control waste but because of the chute screen, I guess that part is unavoidable just as it is n...

New grinder to pair with Gaggia Classic
I post a buying advice for a new espresso machine about a couple of months ago. At that time my budget was really tight so I end up going for a second hand gaggia classic and a manual Hario Skerton grinder. Nonetheless I finally in a position that I will be able to upgrade. My weak points are really...

Whirley pop vs big bucks roasters
I've never used a whirley pop, only a modded popcorn popper then the Hottop B. Based on that experience, I'd say you could probably get good results with practically any roaster provided you've got sufficient control of heat and agitation. The big differences for me was: 1. batch size 2. easy of use...

How good is the Mazzer Robur?
I know! It seems to be contrary but the reason I balk at spending the money on the Scace is that it seems like I should be able to easily build one for myself for about $20 worth of parts (not counting the probe and basket). I am funny that way. On that front, I have decided

Bezzera BZ07 PM or Expobar Brewtus III ??
Another happy Dutch story. I own the BZ07 PM PID for 3 months now, and it works like a dream. The PID is nice to look at, pretty blue light, but one could do without. Not really useful. The hot water lever in the middle looks a bit strange, (I really like the asymmetrical look!) but it works fine! No

Bezzera BZ07 PM or Expobar Brewtus III ??
Matthew, I use the BZ 07 daily and I am still very satisfied! I use it in combination with a Mahlkonig Vario Grinder. It looks GREAT on the kitchen counter. It is really a nice 'looker'. It has a small footprint (as does the Vario) so it fits prefect. In the morning it needs 10 minutes

How good is the Mazzer Robur?
You have reasonably good equipment and I would work to be consistent with that first then move on and upgrade grinder. I don't think grinder will solve your problems. Specifically this is what I would try: - Weigh every single of your doses using 0.1g scale. You can get them cheap on Amazon (jewelry...

Upgrade or not to double boiler
You say your current setup works great. Why would you upgrade? The differences between E61 models are mostly about features and workmanship; whether they're worth "upgrading" is personal judgment. The Duetto introduces the HX versus double boiler debate that comes up regularly. Below is a sample of ...

Can someone explain how best to stabilize the grouphead temperature?
I think PID's are sometimes over used. They are designed to maintain temperature under static, predictable heat dissipation environments are to adjust the recovery algorithm after an unexpected temperature change. Not always the ...

Can someone explain how best to stabilize the grouphead temperature?
So I actually have an inferior machine since my grouphead is welded!! What you say makes sense. I am modifying a blind disk to simulate a shot. That way, I can run two shots with the blind disk and then run my shot. In your experience, does a properly setup PID make the Linea noticeably more
