La Pavoni Europiccola only for espresso - is PID best investment?

always wanted a lever and finally got a pre-mill '84 Europiccola. what i found rightaway is that it runs awfauly hot! i've attached a thermocouple to the grouphead and it shows me ~108C (226F), and naturally espresso tastes burned and no crema due to very hot water. what i don't want from this machi...

Recommended temperature for PID-ed La Pavoni Europiccola

For those of you who have PID-ed your Europiccola or use a temp strip, what temperature do you find gives you the best shots? I suspect there will be various answers, but I would be interested in whatever your personal experience might be
