A sensor in the group is a thermally a million miles away from the heating element in an HX. One might do better to model group thermal performance and install sensors for ambient temperature, air flow and direction - all of which impact an e61. Back in '08 I measured a VBM HX w PID with a Scace 1

... parts included. The original gasket is still good to go. Maybe 50 cups of espresso made with the unit. I upgraded pretty quickly to an Ascaso Dual PID and have had this in storage.

I wonder why they don't put a thermometer on the HX line and PID off of that, which I think is what the Mara X does, right? Not perfect, but if it was close to the PF, it would be better than measuring the boiler. Has anyone tried measuring that at home? Is it doable?

Gaggia Classic pulling too slowly
... Facebook Marketplace. Replaced the gasket for good measure, added a brass dispersion plate, added an IMS screen, and added the Barista Gadgets PID mod. Also switched to bottomless portafilter with IMS basket. Dialed in both a light roast and a medium roast decaf. The shots were tasty, at a ...

Regrettably, it is pure fiction, limited by the thermodynamics of the situation. Just the fact that you can easily control the brew temperature over a 5-10 °C range with flushing without changing the boiler temperature is evidence that, without a sensor on the brew head, any number on that display i...

A PID on an HX machine doesn't remove the requirement for managing the brew temperature yourself. See, for example, "HX Love - Managing the Brew Temperature" Regrettably, both the manometer and the temperature gauge go in the ...

The heat thing is on my radar, I have a couple of ideas on how to solve it. One is to insulate the group head and build a heat shield divider for it. The other is to pop a handful of holes in the cover plate directly above it, and fabricate a drip shield. That should keep the temp down

Good morning everyone! I ask for your help in choosing my next espresso machine. My coffee grinder is a Eureka Specialità which was combined with a Gaggia Evo. My choice was the Profitec Drive, but from what I have read and understood, I would have to empty it continuously due to the problem of lime...
