My grinder behaves in the same way, so I don't think yours is defective. I just hold the portafilter in my hand

I recently found a link to "this Google Maps" map on the Swedish coffee forum. I'm not sure about the quality of all the places on it, but it might be of interest anyway. I don't know who the author of the map is

That's exactly how I adjust my Mini-e as well. Using both hands really helps a lot with stopping the collar from moving too much when it finally starts moving
