You might also ask your greens supplier what coffee of theirs to choose that is very forgiving. You'll want something that will turn out well, not "seasoning greens," which are old leftovers

Fuji Royal or better alternative for friend

I think it might be a matter of preference. Josh seems to like well rounded shots that also display flavor notes. You seem to prefer clarity. BTW, I am seeing Fuji Royal R-440s offered online and Jerico grinders for much less that seem to be repackaged R-440's. I would be tempted to try one of those...
