[GONE] PIDed Solis SL-70 Free to a good home

Dear fellow H-Bers: I have had this SL-70 in storage for a few years and decided it needed a good home. You can see the details in this thread (it never actually sold) "[SOLD] Solis SL-70 single boiler espresso machine with PID, accessories" I took it out, plugged it in and the pump seems not to be

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

Too late! Oh well, If I ever want to go down the pressure profiling route, I'll just get a DE machine. Or, go play on the Slayer at my wife's tea shop!

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

Randy -- I was skeptical also. But -- Replaced the pump (ca. 2006) with the new pump, and wow. It is really night and day. I had to make the grind coarser, and even then the shot maintains a nice steady 9 bar. I do not understand the mechanics and physics of why the blind basket did not

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

OK - thanks again - Clive had the EFX pump so just ordered that higher duty cycle one. The water coming in from the tank is pretty warm

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

Thank you Jeff. I have a pump that I was using for an off-board plumb-in setup that I am not now using, so maybe I'll move that one over and see how it works. On the other hand, I also saw your post on the recent thread: SO maybe not really anything to worry about either

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

OOPS - I forgot to include that during backflush, I get no pressure drop over a 50-second duration. Does that cancel the pump hypothesis? I assume it also means the OPV is not leaking... (edited the original post to include this info)

Pressure drop during shot - What's "normal"?

OK folks, I have been around home espresso for 20 years, and just now noticed something that got me wondering... When I am brewing a shot, the gauge-indicated pressure drops off to about 5-6 bar. It starts at 9 bar, then by 20 seconds it is down to 8, then by 30 seconds down to 6. At that point

Post-infusion - when does it improve flavor?

Hi everyone. My wife's shop machine, a Slayer LPX, has programmable pre- and post-infusion. I think we have a bit of a handle on what the pre-infusion does and how it helps her with flavor. What she has asked, and I have no answer for, is what the post-infusion will do to flavor. We have tried using...

Mahlkonig GUA710 for drip/batch/decaf espresso?

Just a follow-up on this. The decision was to go with the Peak for espresso and the EK43 for drip & decaf espresso. So she is now in the process of breaking in these beasts. The Slayer has been mostly trouble-free, but a bit of a learning curve. What do you do with a post-infusion? If you're passing

Mahlkonig GUA710 for drip/batch/decaf espresso?

Thank you Ira. My wife is meeting with a local water filtration company, and I have given her the SCAA specs for water quality and told her she should make sure the filtered water can meet those specs. {link} -- From what I can tell, the optimal water for extraction is pretty much the same for tea a...
