Quest M3 : time between roasts

My process is similar to this, but here are the specifics: I drop the beans at roast-end and immediately put them in a separate cooler (amazon box cut to fit the bottom of the quest cooling tray and also cut to accept a shop-vac hose.) I drop the fan speed (mine always runs - even at the lowest

[SOLD] Mazzer Major espresso grinder (Portland)

For sale a fine stalwart and capable Mazzer Major espresso grinder. If you prefer flat burrs -- and the 83mm burrs on this grinder are awesome -- you will be hard pressed to find a more capable grinder than a Mazzer Major -- especially at a used price $400 -- and I don't want to ship it. It has

Learning to roast on Quest M3s

Thanks for suggesting this. I'll give it a try -- or, at least I'll think about it between now and my next roasting session. I wish I understood physics better. It seems like this would/could apply the same energy, but transfer more heat via convection and less through conduction -- than lower fan s...

Learning to roast on Quest M3s

This is quite similar to my approach with a couple of differences, but before I note the differences, it may be important to recognize that the Quest M3 has some different drums -- and measured temperatures are likely different from machine to another based on nitty thermocouple and machine differen...

Quest M3S Thermocouples

I sent a PM with a link. I have them mounted in a drilled allen-head bolt with an inelegant stuffing of foil for insulation as the hole is 3mm or so. The braided stainless steel wire is held in place with twist ties. I don't find them too noisy, but you can judge for yourself. Here's a recent roast.

Quest M3S Thermocouples

If you can stand the wait, AliExpress has lots of options. I'm running some 1.5mm probes with good results -- about $6 each in about 4 weeks

Odd (maybe) observations on thermocouples - Arduino, TC4Plus, Max6675

I've noticed some similar things. I use extra grounding connections between my thermocouple shielding, my roaster, and my Arduino/TC4 -- or now on my esp32. Things are running fairly smoothly for me, but I'm also investigating galvanic isolation, like discussed in the following video. {video}

Similar curves, but different results

Also, the first two videos linked in the following thread present a lot of information that relates directly to your question. "Cropster RoastID Webinar Series"

Cropster RoastID Webinar Series

These are awesome. I heard a mix of theory and practical actions that I can apply to different roast situations and in response to different tasting results. Thanks for posting this. John

Similar curves, but different results

The more I roast, the more I realize how much all the little stuff matters. I too have a small electric drum roaster, Quest M3 in my case. When I look at your curves, I see them as very different. Or, to say it another way, they are the same or very similar only at the charge temperature and
