Updosing on Rancilio Silvia
I also have the triple basket and it is not easy to work with. Tons of channeling. I guess this is more likely because the puck is deeper. The machine is also easily choked with the triple basket. So I just stick with the ridgeless double

Gas grill roasting
I may order that Thermocouple and digital thermometer in my next order. I may not need it though. My Weber grill thermometer seems to be perfectly level with the roasting drum. I usually do alot of venting once I hit a full FC, maybe i'll try without venting

Gas grill roasting
Thought I would report back. I ended buying a 1lb drum from coffee roasters club. I'm powering the drum w/ a cordless 18v Black and Decker power drill. I cut out a piece of styrofoam to stabilize the drill as it lays on its side on the grill. I still have a great deal to learn. I would love to

Gas grill roasting
Haha. I'm using my power drill as a rotisserie motor as well. It works really well. Can get kind of nerve racking when the zip ties loosen up slightly

Wiring question for bbq drum roaster motor
Has anyone else used their power drill to rotate the BBQ drum. I cannot believe how well it works. It can be a little bit of a pain sometimes (using a zip tie to to keep it powered) but man it works great, especially at the high torque setting

Channeling problem with triple baskets
I do not really weight my doses. I typically use the scoop that came with the machine. Two leveled scoops for the double basket, and three for the triple. I've been thinking about buying a gram scale though. I have lately been tapping the side of the portafilter to knock grounds from the side, but I...

Clueless regarding key to "sweet" espresso?
I've yet to achieve a shot that I could say tasted sweet. The best that I get from my Silvia/Zip setup for the most part consists of berries, mellow, and usually very complex. When ever I get tired of this taste I just check out this video: {video}Sadly, I wonder if I will ever be able to achieve su...

Channeling problem with triple baskets
What is the best dose/tamp technique for the triple filter basket. I'm having channeling issues that I never had with my double basket. It seems much more difficult to get a even tamp using the triple, simply because the puck is a little deeper. When analyzing my pours using the naked portafilter, I...

Gas grill roasting
I've wanted to home roast for some time now, and are very interested in buying a drum roasting chamber for my new Weber Spirit gas grill. The steel roasting chambers seem somewhat expensive for a hunk of metal. The Behmor 1600 drum roaster's replacement drum looks identical to most gas grill drum ro...
