Quest M3 Charge, TP and Initial RoR
Hello fellow Quest M3 roasters, I have about 15 roasts on a new Quest M3 after upgrading from a 12 year old Hottop. I have been charging with 150g and various temperatures getting turning point around 149F-160F and a fast RoR from there that quickly drops off to 25Fpm-30Fpm. I came across a video th...

Full Manual Hottop
How can you tell if the fan is failing? It seems to run OK. The premature dump happens randomly with no warning. I might try replacing the fan just to rule that out. But I am still interested in modding the hottop to full manual control

Full Manual Hottop
Folks, after years of roasting with my Hottop-B, I have reached some frustrations: 1. Random premature manual dumps... great roast going, getting 1st crack...DUMP! NO NO NO! 2. The 165F barrier... especially frustrating after a premature dump. 3. The excessive and annoying beeping. Who does unattend...

Bitter Smoke from Hottop-B Roast
Thanks all for the info and pics of some super nice Hottop roasting rigs! I am not usually a 'modder'... but I think I have found the root cause of all of my bitter smoky roasts. I have been roasting way too fast on account of the ridiculously inaccurate stock temperature sensor! After some testing ...

Bitter Smoke from Hottop-B Roast
How do you keep the environmental temp (ET) from falling during a roast with the filter removed and fan running? I am struggling with this... Removing the filter to flush roasting smoke causes the ET to drop significantly. I have read that we want to keep ET from dropping during a roast, but keeping...

Bitter Smoke from Hottop-B Roast
Update: Reversed airflow. During one of my cleaning sessions, I decided to experiment by reversing the airflow direction on my Hottop-B. I swapped the polarity on the connector where the fan plugs in, effectively reversing the direction of rotation of the fan. The circuit boards in the back end of t...

Bitter Smoke from Hottop-B Roast
Five years ago I posted a topic with this same title... Here is my solution to getting great roasts with the Hottop-B, after visiting a roasting house and realizing that they work very hard to remove smoke during the roasting process. 1. Forget about the Hottop charcoal smoke filter. It doesn't work...

We Need a Hottop - M (for MANUAL)
I'm sure I have a lot to learn about roasting coffee, doesn't everyone? But I wasn't trying to make a 25 minute roast... I bypassed the automatic "Add Beans" signal, waiting for a warmer ET than 160F. I was experimenting with a slower roast profile because my decaf roasts keep coming out scorched. T...

We Need a Hottop - M (for MANUAL)
Furthermore... New decaf beans arrived...I've been doing some reading about roasting them slower than normal. So I left the heat low on the Hottop...too low. Once I realized the ramp up was too slow, I cranked up the heat because... The Hottop arbitrarily imposed max time limit was running out. HURR...

We Need a Hottop - M (for MANUAL)
Very frustrated with my Hottop-B model. The software is too dumb. Today I accidentally ejected beans mid-roast... 1. Sometimes (not often) I accidentally hit the EJECT button which is right next to the STEP button mid-roast, wasting beans. In this case, I am the dumb one...but afterwards, I feel lik...
