Niche Zero Extended Spout

Decent Espresso recently came out with a short version of their funnel (12mm tall) that is supposed to work with a Niche Zero and the DE tall portafilter stand. It does have a shipping delay at the moment though. {link}

Non-standard grouphead sizes

You can definitely make standard/Normale shots with a smaller group head size. I used a Vivaldi (53mm) for years before getting a DE1 (58mm) and was able to pull 1:2 ratio shots with no problems. Depending on the dose weight, that might mean something less than 36-40g in the cup but a normal shot ou...

New accessories from Baratza

Just saw the following videos pop up on YouTube. I didn't see them on Baratza's site but might have missed them. [Edit: they are "here".] A new Sette holder for Aeropress and a single dose hopper for most/all of their grinders. It looks like there also is a trim kit for the Encore grinder that repla...

Espresso Water Help/Question

Please confirm your "chlorine" values are chlorine vs chloride. It's not relevant to your scaling question but is important with regards to suggestions folks might make. If those are truly chlorine, you'll want to get chloride levels tested as well since that can cause corrosion and usually requires...

Niche Zero grinder

Not sure why your grinder was not set at 20 but that's not a problem. By turning the adjustment ring (funnel) clockwise until finger tight you have reached more or less the absolute zero or burr touch point. Whether or not the burrs are actually touching depends on how clean the grinder was when thi...

Mark page read confirmation

I also noticed this change and figured it was part of a phpBB patch. Could not locate a preference to disable it. It would have saved me a few times when I accidentally clicked the mark all read instead of mark page read but I'd prefer to disable it as well

Leveling Tampers - Manual Push Type vs. Spring Power Type

John has posted on the DE forum that the v3 is not a calibrated force tamper. There is also the following video where he describes the difference between v1 and V2. I went back and looked at the v2/v3 differences and it looks like 25 vs 15lb spring, handle color, and ease of disassembly. {video}

Leveling Tampers - Manual Push Type vs. Spring Power Type

The Decent Espresso V2 and V3 tampers are leveling tampers but are not calibrated in the sense that they indicate when the referenced force is applied to the puck. They calibration mentioned for these tampers refers to the force needed to move a new spring. The spring is primarily there to return th...

Niche Zero grinder

If you email them or post on the Indiegogo page, they can provide an estimate (e.g. middle of the month) when orders are expected to go out. Once my order shipped (perhaps when the shipping label was created), I received an email from Niche via DPD with a tracking number. At some point, the package ...
