Coffee "earth" notes

Dirt ...... Sorry there's no other way to describe it.... Go dig some fresh dirt and take a big sniff.... Dirt can actually smell good sort of.... It's an earthy mustiness. But it's not a dark roast or bitterness........ Try some Sumatran coffee. It's different..... It's one of the predominant chara...

I'm done with 'shipped' coffee

For me its about convenience.......too few places to buy fresh coffee near me.....all out of way. Way out of way. $20/lb vs $8 or so as well. You dont have to be as good as best roasters......only have to be better than other nearby options. I see it as a chore......although comparing coffees is int...

Is Sweet Maria's selling past-its-prime coffee?

It takes several months for coffee to get to you from the time it's picked and processed in the first place. Maybe five or six months. That coffee that arrives in July was picked in January or such , or possibly even December.n Green coffee is good for a long time at least a year plus ez

Immersion always results in off taste

I also don't care much for immersion brewing. It's okay.. but to me it tastes murky. .. not as clean and defined as the particular taste you get from a good well-roasted bean that you like.... When it's brewed it's pour over. It's like there's more mixed flavors versus one dominant defined flavor if...

Kaldi Fortis Cyclone

Ouch. Maybe if it comes with the blower and a speed control that's not that bad I've been looking at the Fortis Plus for a long time but haven't seen a single review on it. Seems nice to have it all integrated

Coffee roasting... for coffee drinkers?

If you want to actually understand roasting, you're going to have to roast coffee. If you want to actually understand the differences between origins and types, you're going to have to drink well roasted coffees from them. If you want to understand the differences between processing techniques, well...

I want to open a proper café in North Texas

I really have nothing constructive to offer. I like coffee shops. I less enthusiastic about "counterculture" people that frequent them. Regular people just don't hang out at coffee shops, the only time they have is a Saturday morning. A lot of these people are marginally employed or students, in my ...

Alternative V60 filter papers - and how drawdown time affects taste

Im satisfied with the Cafec ilters and purchase them regularly on amazon. Just received 200 yesterday. I might even prefer them because they come in the 100 pack and not little boxes. They ship quick and I receive them in one day. But then again while I was out of filters for a couple of days

First roaster

In any trade, or job, you'll find people that range from excellent to awful. My motto is trust, but verify. I have seen poor electrical work before, and bad information from electricians. To have an electrician to do anything the right way typically requires permits and inspections and takes $100 jo...

First roaster

a couple of ways around that. The easiest which might be to use your dryer socket, and plug an adapter in that, running an extension cord. That's usually 240 V 30 amp so you can just use one side of that for 120 volt at 30 amp. Other way, would be to supply extension cords
