Adjusting Flow Rate on Moccamaster KBGT (not KBT)

The flow rate is not determined by the sprayhead, but by the power of the heater and the starting temperature of the brew water. You could effectively lengthen the brew time by: (a) reducing the power of the heater (this could be done by pulsing the element - lowering the duty cycle - or by reducing...

Using the VST tools app for brewing coffee: why difference in brewing ratio?

It's because of the difference in the TDS of the retained liquid at the end of the brew

Looking for timer + kWh limiter

Just to be clear - the thing you are referring to as a Wemo-like device, is simply turning on at a given time and turning off once a certain amount of power has been consumed? It's not doing any fast switching to limit the effective consumption (duty cycle etc)? If all the switching except the initi...

Looking for timer + kWh limiter

How would you stretch it? Not sure I follow. The unit has an internal thermostat which will switch power to the element, provided it is connected to the mains. You are suggesting (if I understand you) to limit the input to a certain level which will incorporate the heat-up phase as well as a certain...

Looking for timer + kWh limiter

Why not just set it to turn on for 9 minutes? I would think these class of consumer devices would be more precise at measuring time than kWh, and given a consistent initial state (temperature, volume of water etc), then the kWh should correlate well to time

Why such a taste difference (3 vs 6 cups)

Presumably the water dispense time is twice as long? (as the flow rate is proportional to the heating power and the starting water temperature). All other things being equal you would expect the extraction yield to be significantly increased if you doubled the water dispense time. You could try to c...

Heating Element Burnout

Short answer is watt density. Lower watt density can dissipate enough heat in air. I would presume most oven elements are much larger (surface area) than comparable submersed elements of similar power

Burnt electrical in my espresso machine. Can you help me figure out what happened?

Hmm. Possible bad crimps, causing arcing (heat build-up, burn-out etc) on the high current path? Looks like a bit of a rat's nest in terms of wiring. Hard to tell from the pics if the crimps are bad

Baratza's New Vario Burrs for Non-espresso Brew Only

Don't do that. Put the burr in your freezer, put the carrier in the oven (on low)
