Breville Dual Boiler, five+ years on

Hi Peter, Thanks again for your informational posts, been reading them over the years. I was wondering whether you had instructions or a post on how you could replace the stock pump + plastic OPV to the brass pump/OPV. Sounds like a mod that would make a great machine even better. Thanks. -J

Prosumer Espresso Grinder Purchase Decision -- Help Wanted!

Owner of a k30 vario here and have never regretted the purchase even with the new monoliths coming out. I've just found the convenience of a hopper doser far outweighed the ability to change beans daily. I'm not the type of guy who changes day in and day out. Although a bit large, the short hopper c...

Breville Dual Boiler vs Profitec Pro 500

Also have a BDB that I love, have pulled ~2-3 shots every day for about 1.5years without a single hiccup. I would expect the move to the Pro500 to be lateral at best. Although the Pro500 has better steaming ability, it does lose out slightly on convenience due to it being an HX. I would probably sug...

Baratza Sette defies logic?

In my opinion I think Baratza did a really good job with burr geometry, they might have realized that focusing on that variable really affects taste compared to the other variables. I think Mahlkonig does a great job with this too. I think we all have to remember the coffee gear game is a lot like o...

Baratza Sette vs. Monolith Flat: No difference in cup?

Just want to say thanks for posting this information! I find it very interesting and it goes to show that taste may be less connected to those grind distribution charts than most people think. I mean they're linked for sure but maybe not to the degree many believe

Breville Dual Boiler, five+ years on

If you want to make conclusions on some statements he makes its fair, I mean you aren't technically wrong. But in my opinion, he didn't give specifics so really anyone could make many conclusions from what he said. For me, I prefer the BDB over everything on the market based on its price and feature...

Study suggests three coffees a day reduces premature mortality by 8% to 18%

This statement sums it up very well. I analyze these kind of studies as a full time job and finding out the effect of food on death is almost impossible because of so many different things that you can't account for. If you want to get into the real nitty gritty, when you look at the numbers for thi...

Canadian Roasters: Canucks...What are you drinking?

Just want to throw out that I recently came back from a trip to Vancouver. Super cool cafes and insane selection of beans to choose from. Some places to note: Revolver, Nemesis, Timbertrain (the best nitro cold brew I've had), Moving Coffee Drinking beans from Timbertrain at the moment and boy they ...

Question 1001 on dialing in my shot in search of "sweet"

Yeah I would give 18g a try as the basket is more geared towards that particular dose but I do currently fit 20g in it no problem (have been playing around with darker roasts so needed the higher dose). But yeah if you can get that target time and output, you are going to find the shots are
