Looking for Logs with Crash and Flick.

Hi Roasters, I have been a home barista for a number of years, and finally got interested in the "upstream" process of roasting - which appears surprisingly complex In particular I got interested in trying to analyse the temp/RoR curves, especially around the "crash" and "flick" phenomena to see if ...

Optimal height of coffee beans in the hopper.

After some procrastination, I finally designed a new nano-hopper for "single" or "few" dosing. It holds about 140g of coffee, and stands about 26cm tall (stock one is about 18cm). It is modular, so it is easy to trial different designs of the top and bottom parts without reprinting the entire part. ...

Auber PID random alarm trigger

Thanks for the suggestion! After decorating the heating element power, the main power, and the thermocouple (for a good measure) wires with ferrite beads, I don't get any more alarm activations for the past several days. Hopefully this will be a long-term solution

Auber PID random alarm trigger

Hi, I have been using Auber PID 1/32DIN temperature controller for my Sterga's group head heating element for almost a year now. I have coupled it with a small 5A SSR to drive the heating element, as well as regular relay inline with the heater line that switches off the power once the preset temper...

Bezzera Strega dripping grouphead

I did pull out my piston recently, and I think I found the reason for the dripping. I noticed some wear marks inside the cylinder walls, close to where the first and second seals normally operate. Thus, while the cylinder is still cold, some water goes between the seal and the wall, dripping out. On...

Bezzera Strega dripping grouphead

Thanks a lot for the great advice! My machine is about 5 years old, but I only make a couple of shots a day, and I do not see any water leaks when pulling shots. Nonetheless it seems like I found the next maintenance project: to lubricate the seals. Once I have the attention of Strega experts, could

Bezzera Strega dripping grouphead

Dear Lever Enthusiasts, Recently I started noticing that there is water dripping from the shower screen while my Strega is warming up. It keeps on doing it even if I flush the group. Once it is all up to temp, I don't see any more water coming through. Is this a sign of lip seals getting worn out, or

Recommended Portable Hand Grinder For On The Go?

I would not recommend the Hario grinder. I had it for some time, and the central metal shaft is (or at least was) made out of a soft metal, so the handle would dig into it and get stuck on it, so it would not come out. After a while, the handle has rounded the metal shaft, so it would

SSP burrs in Mazzer Mini E -- stalling

How old is your grinder? Mine also stalls occasionally, and was doing so before SSP conversion. When I first got it, it would not even be able to grind at espresso setting at all. I changed the cap and now it works OK. I am guessing probably the motor gets degraded power with age/use
