Can't brew a sweet shot and am completely lost.

Sorry for not answering sooner. Reading that you are using the backflush method threw me a curveball. I'm not that familiar with it (I recall running across a thread about it once but never mentally dove in) so I'll need to familiarize myself with it. However, I'm going to make the assumption that r...

Can't brew a sweet shot and am completely lost.

RNAV, I looked at the link you posted. I believe the graph values you are referring to are for the "flush-and-wait" method. And you are correct, for THAT method the puck temps will be 3-5 degrees below the group thermometer reading. However, for the "flush-and-go" method, which is what you are using...

Can't brew a sweet shot and am completely lost.

Are you using flush and go technique? If so, you may brewing at a higher temperature than you think. According to Eric's manual the puck temp is 3-5 degrees HIGHER than what the group thermometer reads, so if you are ending your shot at 203, your puck temp is at 206 -208 which is obviously much high...

No Crema on New Espresso Machine/New Grinder

Congrats! From everything that I have read, you're going to love it. Although I believe I have mastered the temperature variations on the Pro 500, a dual boiler is definitely in my future. I think not having to worry about flushes will just make everything that much more enjoyable. Also, being able ...

No Crema on New Espresso Machine/New Grinder

Hi BillF. Sounds to me like something is/was wrong with your Pro 500. I had mine for about a year and generally speaking the group warms to a temp of 204 F within 45-50 minutes. Here's what I measured shortly after purchasing the machine: Time (min) Temp (F) 0

Eric E61 Thermometer Flushing on Rocket Appartamento Temperature Questions

Hi Slybarman. I don't blame you for being confused. Here a quote directly from Eric in another thread: The video posted in this earlier in this thread, while very nicely done, seems to have it wrong and thus is brewing at a very high temp. I read and reread Eric's manual that came with my thermomete...

No Crema on New Espresso Machine/New Grinder

I, too, came from a Breville to a Pro 500 and a Ceado, in my case an E6P. I truly wonder if it may be your grinder. My Ceado has been wonderfully consistent from the start. Crema has never been an issue though obviously it varies by the roast I'm using. I second Eric's thermometer. You can

Eric E61 Thermometer Flushing on Rocket Appartamento Temperature Questions

You're welcome! I've gotten a lot knowledge and assistance on this forum so it's nice to try to return some of it. If you're flushing for about 10 seconds after initial warm up (or long idle time) and that includes flash boil time then that sounds very similar to my Pro 500. If you're flushing for 10

Eric E61 Thermometer Flushing on Rocket Appartamento Temperature Questions

I just reread your post and saw you mentioned a temp of 206 C when pulling a shot using flush and go. How is shot flow rate? It sounds like you may be grinding too fine or dosing to high and that there is too much resistance when pulling a shot and thus causing a temperature spike. Just a thought

Eric E61 Thermometer Flushing on Rocket Appartamento Temperature Questions

This may be tangential since I've got a Profitec Pro 500 with Eric's thermometer. However, given that they are both heat exchangers with similar boiler sizes (I believe) and E61 group heads, perhaps my experience will help. I very thoroughly read Eric's instruction's and explanation of the flush and...
