Review of the Decent Espresso DE1+PRO

The duty cycle for the pumps is something like 1 min on, followed by 1 minute off. But that assumes full power - 50/60Hz. At a slow flow, the pump is running nowhere near that rate, so can operate indefinitely

My Take on the Decent DE1+

I think it's a great machine, but "by no means right for everyone"

My Take on the Decent DE1+

I'd be careful about a "great leap forward." Jokes aside, I totally agree

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

This raises the question of whether there is some ideal pressure for a "bloom." With my DE1+, I actually was targeting atmospheric pressure, but I determine that I've filled the headspace by checking for a rise in pressure, and the intermittent pressure is noisy enough that I've settled on about 1 b...

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Well, Rao got 24%. I don't know what I got. Post-shot puck weight math suggests, maybe, 23%. I get a very chocolatey, fairly full-bodied cappuccino using a fairly dark roast and a Central American bean. My tentative conclusion is that I get more complexity with 16 g in an 18 g basket versus in a 15 ...

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Hi, all. Here is some data the folks reading this thread might find interesting. I've been using my Decent DE1+ and its advanced profile feature to preinfuse at moderate volume (3 mL/s) into a 16 g. puck until I detect just a bit of back pressure (1.3 bar), and then letting the puck bloom for 30 sec...

Review of the Decent Espresso DE1+PRO

My profile (and an explanation) are now available in the "Basecamp Decent forum". For the non-Decent owners, here is the explanation I posted there, in case you're interested. (You can also look at the profile file itself, though I won't try to explain the format of that file.) The explanation below...

Review of the Decent Espresso DE1+PRO

That was my first attempt, but the threshold checking is happening at a very high sampling rate, and right at the switch from flow to pressure there can apparently be a momentary spike in flow. So you need a flow w/exit if pressure > x, the pressure at x for a couple of seconds to let things settle ...

Review of the Decent Espresso DE1+PRO

Hah, I think that is actually the profile I developed! (Or at least based on it.) So, yes, in reality I don't use a pure flow profile. But more often than not I don't hit the pressure cap, so on those mornings I'm effectively using a flow profile
