My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Thank you, Jake! Yes, I also find it funny that I can tinker with the machine for a few days at a time, but when it comes to getting coffee out of it, I want results RIGHT NOW!!! This site is a great "reality check" for me, when I try to jump to conclusions too fast: "Already pulled two

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

OK, agree I am impatient. I think i understand people who found it such a drag to wait 4 minutes to get their coffee You know, Assaf, in a way I am kind of lucky. Now I will not have to spend weeks trying to figure out what da heck I was doing wrong. So, thank you!

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Hey Jim, Yes, it's quite possible. I might be doing it wrong. However, I still find it interesting that I fail to notice any significant improvement in taste (compared to just standard technic). It might be that I expect too much

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

I find this is one of the most fascinating threads, that provokes constant experiments Here is my 2 cents to the ramble, I could not resist either and had to try the "blooming" technic. Coffee: from a local roaster, something called "Kenyan, AA beans, roasted slightly darker than medium", whatever t...

BFC Junior TCI. New Adventures.

A side effect. Before upgrading to the new boiler I used to run my machine 24/7. With the new boiler I set up a timer to switch it on every morning ~30 minutes before I wake up, and then switch it off once I've got my morning fix and off to work. One positive side effect is the

BFC Junior TCI. New Adventures.

Part 3: Putting Hampty Dampty back together again... OK, so in the last part I turned my machine into a bag of parts... {image} Here are some ideas I wanted to test on a new boiler: 1. Small volume. The new boiler is 280 mL (with the HE in). I wanted to have a very

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Thank you, Assaf, no problem. I've learnt the hard way that it is always a good idea to check that I've got my basics right. That would be quite embarrassing for me (albeit not at all surprising) to find out that I've been brewing my coffee at higher than recommended temperatures. Phew! About the OP...

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Assaf, I also have a question How come? I always thought the brew temperature should be between 195F - 205F. Also, does this mean that with a saturated group, the boiler can be run at brew temperature (or very close to it)?

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

Hey guys, looks like all they fun is happening without me! Jake, you have answered all the questions correctly, so I just wanted to clarify a couple of points, because I have been changing my machine so often that all these OPVs and others made different sense at different stages of its evolution......

My long and rambling path to preinfusion/pressure profiling

ah, OK... Looks like this tests the limits of my knowledge and I like that. OK, here is what happens if you have the head space in the brew boiler (I know because the original boiler that came with the machine had it, and that is why I wanted to get rid of it) - things get funny
