Need help with Bonavita BV1800TH replacement carafe

Thanks for the help. I ended up going with the "Bonavita carafe for the 1900". It worked great. The Bonavita CS folks couldn't guarantee that it would work before I bought it, but I took the chance, and it fit great. They also kindly gave me a customer loyalty discount because I've bought a lot from...

Need help with Bonavita BV1800TH replacement carafe

I bought my Bonavita BV1800TH ("link here") 8 years ago now. The carafe finally broke. I could hear broken glass rolling around inside, and it started leaking coffee out. They don't make this one any more. It's now the BV1900. I think the new carafe they make fits my old coffee maker. They are backo...

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

Thanks again for your help. I'm curious how this should change for water for brewed coffee or a pourover. When I last got advice from you, I used two different dilutions for espresso (to not scale) and for pourover coffee. Thank you. Edit: I should note that currently I make my own water. I use the ...

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

Really appreciate all of the advice, but this in particular was very helpful. The taste changed completely compared to my "self-made" water. I'm going to keep trying it but I think it will be hard to beat the taste I get from making my own with epsom salt and baking soda. I must be very sensitive to...

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

Yes the house has soft water everywhere except the cold water tap in the kitchen. Correct. The soft water is probably softer than I can test with the aquarium kit. They told me it was under 1 gpg with their professional kit. Actually the TDS reading was on the soft water. Is the increased dissolved ...

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

Ok I have the answer. Basically I did have soft water I was just testing from my kitchen sink which isn't soft so that you don't expose yourself to all the salt added. Today I learned... Had no idea. But in order to find this out I had to get my water tested at my local water treatment specialists, ...

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

Thanks so much for the help. I actually have a regular water softener. I just moved in, and the previous owner must not have noticed that it has only cycled 30 something times in a few years since it was built. So there's obviously a setting that I need to adjust. I'm going to do that but in the

Just moved, new city water, please advise on how to avoid scaling

I previously "received some excellent help" from "homeburrero" interpreting the results of my home "API Aquarium Water Test Kit" so I knew how much to dilute my tap water with distilled water to prevent scaling. I've moved and my GH and KH are off the charts. GH = 19 drops. The charts doesn't even g...

Help dialing in brewed coffee with Aeropress

Wanted to provide another update. Brewing that perfect cup has thus far eluded me. I'm really happy with my espresso and want to bring my brewed coffee up to par. I bought a v60. Really happy with the results but still thought I could do better. It's been fun though. {video} I stopped using my tap w...

Best options for espresso with hard water

Wow. That's great. How can you verify it's from the Norman Plant? I've been mixing my tap with distilled water to make a nice solution with acceptable TDS and alkalinity, but this would probably be even better since there would be no chlorine, etc
