Upgraditis - what be that? Retrospectively I know, that my Caravels or Pavonis are capable of producing as good and interesting shots as i.e. my Paddle FB/80 or the Vivaldi II

What's your day job?
After having finished my degrees in technical chemistry and technical sciences and a very brief university career, I've spent most of my life as a software developer and IT-consultant in my own business. Aside from that I've recently opened a - very small - speciality roasting business as a second p...

Espresso equipment test methodology
Yes, but these grinders also need a few kilos of beans during the "breaking in" period until they are "stable". I do not seem to recall having read anything whether or not this has be done before the tests started... But I entirely agree with you about the "...fun and informative experiment"

Espresso equipment test methodology
To read "real, statistically valid" and "blind tasting" in one sentence is mildly amusing. For statistics to be valid you needed a huge number of probes and probants. Done with a few probants and probes the results may still be interesting, but "statistically" they are entirely irrelevant and might ...

My own little hypothesis is that the grinding process per se has a detrimental effect on the taste, so to me the question would be which grinder - or which form of grinding process - does a minimal da...

Titan Grinder Project: Does burr heating coffee grounds negatively affect taste of espresso?
Now aside from the fact that "myths" - in the original sense of the word mythos - were much closer to reality than the so called "facts" we describe in our languages based on logos as a tool of communication I see no debunking of anything so far. But what I do seem to sense is a certain number of

Flea market find - vintage Arrarex Caravel
Hi Henry, Yes, the part now encircled in the photo above is screwed into the rectangular opening of the metal rod... Yes the temperature was measured in the water. My - hopefully educated - guess is that the entire rod (which is slightly bent in the middle) seems to act as thermostat, meaning that a...
