Going to Rome - where should I go for espresso?

I like Bar Farnese, 20 Via de' Baullari. When I've been there I saw all locals in the bar, but I'm sure that's not always the case as it's near the very touristy Campo de Fiori

Netherlands and Paris

Here's my list (and Google map) of places to get good coffee in Paris. I started with an article in Time Out Paris, and added some places from a few other sources. I believe I've tried all of them except for Eggs and co and the Hardware Société Paris, and can recommend them. Unfortunately I will not

Nearly nine years with a Baratza Vario

Thanks, Peter. I've taken your advice and ordered a new set of shims. I suspect you're right about maintaining the correct amount of pressure on the nubs on the arms against the teeth on the face plate. I agree about the price/performance ratio, and that a certain amount of maintenance is to be expe...

Nearly nine years with a Baratza Vario

I purchased my Vario in March 2010, serial #1823. I installed shims in early 2012 when the levers began to slip. Maybe I didn't install them correctly, but the shims made only a slight improvement. Being lazy, I chose to live with the issue. About 3 years after this it began to make a low rumbling

Ceado E37s working perfectly

No free short hopper, Tony. I asked. The best they would do was 5% off the order. I ordered a small hopper and lid and with that, the 5% came to about $63

Ceado E37s working perfectly

Thanks, tegee! From 1st line's website: "Our grinders have the stainless steel static flap built in." Still, I'll call them in the morning to be sure. It hasn't shipped yet. I'm also moving from an old Vario. I'm hoping I'll be able to taste the difference, although shots from the Vario are nothing ...

Ceado E37s working perfectly

I've just ordered an E37s from 1st line. Very excited! The other thread had me concerned, but I just couldn't bring myself to spend the extra $$$ for the K30 or any of the other similar grinders. I only have about 2 lbs of old beans saved up for burr seasoning, so I'll run those through before my

Baratza Vario stalling in fine settings?

The first thing I would try is a burr calibration as described on page 12 of the manual. This should be done without any beans in the grinder. If that doesn't help I would contact Baratza. Their customer service is excellent
