I want to open a proper café in North Texas

Have you exhaustively explored the local cafes? If you posted 10 years ago I would have agreed that the landscape was for coffee was sparse. Fast forward to now and there are so many options in DFW that I feel like I can grab a decent cup without traveling too far. We even have a couple that

Breville Dual Boiler "Slayer shots"?

Another option is to repurpose the magnetic tamper storage slot. The magnet-strip at the top of the slot is held in place with some hot glue. Open up the top of the case, carefully pull the magnetic strip off, and now you have a decently sized hole to rig a new button/switch through. Bonus points if...

Breville Dual Boiler Mods and Maintenance

Not sure if anyone has posted any longevity feedback about the most recent BDB design yet... As we all know, the water lines going in/out of the boilers used to be sealed with #007 o-rings and locked in place with a hairpin clip. In the newer design, Breville did away with the clips and now use stai...

Breville Oracle - First Shot Problem

Coffee ground retention in a grinder is a thing and, depending on the grinder, can range from ~0g to 4-5g. Smaller grinders or single-dosing grinders tend to retain less compared to larger high volume grinders. I don't know how much retention is typical for the Oracle. Purging a little bit after an ...

Breville Dual Boiler Learning Curve?

The gasket is fairly stiff from the factory so you may have to use a little more force than you would normally. Mine was stiff for 2-3 weeks... maybe a month tops. You definitely won't hurt anything locking it to 6 o'clock. I'd also use 19g as your starting weight when dialing in a new set of

Breville Dual Boiler, five+ years on

I went to a Breville Espresso class back in the pre-covid era and spent some time after class chatting with the instructor. He runs a modded BDB at home and the 'upgrade' that caught my attention was where he PID'ed the boilers to improve steaming performance

Cannot generate any brew pressure whatsoever with Breville Barista Express BES870XL

Not sure if its included with the 870 models, but the blind filter is the rubber cleaning disc ({link}). You place that in the basket then lock your portafilter and start the shot. It fully chokes the extraction and should result in 9-10bar at the pressure gauge. The gauge needle typically bounces a...
