Well Maurice, if that's the case and I won't dispute that, I'd just remove the fan blade assembly and leave the motor. The OP says he's using it at home anyway. I'd see if that quieted things down and go from there. What do you think? "KN" OM

You might be able to swap the fan for a resistor that would have the same impedance as the fan so the circuit would 'see' that and 'think' it's the fan motor

Squeaky/gritty E61 lever after lubricating

Re-lubricate the cam assembly well. Detergent back flushing might wash out the lubricant. Use, with coffee oils will also re-lubricate the cam assembly
