Gaskets for spring lever
I tried the Cafelat silicone gaskets on my SCL and found them to be too flexible causing leaks. Salvatore gaskets are stiffer and work much better

Have you noted a difference in extraction between starting with all beans in the grinder vs. feeding the beans after the grinder has started. On my "motorized HG-1" (conical burr set), I get a much faster extraction when feeding the beans after the grinder has started resulting in a weaker espresso

You should check that the water level sensor is properly connected to the controller with no breaks in the wire and that the controller is actually functioning. You may want to pull the sensor to make sure it is clear of scale as well

I only used softened and conditioned water. I did remove the vacuum breaker and soak it in vinegar once when I go a slight hiss from the valve. That took care of the hiss

I have an SCL and it does have a vacuum breaker. Perhaps the former owner removed it because it hissed all the time which can happen when scale builds in the valve and does not let it close properly.
