Brand New Breville Dual Boiler: Pressure Profile Issues and Other Questions
Assuming your beans are fresh (within 4-30 days of roasting, not best sell-by date) and your puck preparation was good, it sounds like a dialing-in problem or burr seasoning problem. Set the grinder to finer grind setting. Purge at least half or one does. Re-prepare the puck. I have been sticking to...

Breville Dual Boiler, five+ years on
My 920XL had been producing hissing sound lately when the boilers were turned on. Steam fogged up the LCD screen, and condensation can be found on the top of the steam lever. When I opened the lid and turn on the machine, I could see bubbles coming form the dictated outlets in the picture. I replace...

Breville Dual Boiler Volumetric Problems
If it is the Dual Boiler's fault, you can check the weight of the water it dispenses without the portafilter. If it is consistent, you can change the volumetric setting and see if that setting is registered or not. That way you can prove whether or your machine is operating as intended. If volumetri...

Dialing in Stumptown Hairbender
If your machine is a heat exchanger, maybe it is a good idea to flush the group head a few seconds before brewing. The water has been sitting in the machine, making the water much hotter then 205F. If this is the case, it may explain why you have been pulling fast shots

Breville Dual Boiler (920) volumetric dosing
Provided the grind size and dose of the coffee is the same between shots, the volumetric dosing is quite consistent. There are two kinds of dosing on the machine, time and volume based on the Dual Boiler. (The Barista Express only has time based dosing.) I usually use the volumetric one because I me...

Best Roasters in Philadelphia
You can also try Rival Bros ({link}). I have not tried their beans yet, but according to one of my coworker, who likes pour over drinks, it is not bad

Single Origins: Roast Level and Espresso Quality
I have set my grinder to go finer, and I am able to use only 18g. I think my set up is fine. Thank you for all the input

Single Origins: Roast Level and Espresso Quality
Only 21g could build up proper pressure and flow time on my Barista Express, while 19g can build up proper pressure on my BDB920. I use non-pressurized filters on both machines. I guess for different single origins, different dosing can be used. I was doing a Ethiopian bean (Counter Culture Idido Na...

East Coast Road Trip
For Philly, I would pick ReAminator Coffee Roasters and Elixr Coffee. They are both local roasteries and their beans are quite good. Another one is Ultimo Coffee, but they serve Counter Culture beans, which can be had at other cities. Joe Coffee has 2 branches. It is not bad either. Joe is from NYC

To cream or not to cream?
For travel, I brought my one cup french press, Hario slim and of course my favorite coffee on my recent trip. That way I can avoid crappy coffee
